The Mercedes GL450 A Deal Built on Trust
Some deals are about numbers. This one was about trust.
After setting my sights on tracking down the vehicles I had once admired, one of the first opportunities that came up was a Mercedes GL450 limousine located in New Orleans.
I flew out to meet the seller, and I’ll never forget it. He was a great guy. We sat down, had coffee together, and then he took us out locally for gumbo, we talked about the vehicle and the business. It wasn’t rushed. It wasn’t transactional. It felt genuine.
Some of the best deals are remembered not for the numbers, but for the trust behind them.
At that time, I was working with a bank that had been treating me really well. They trusted me, and I trusted them. But the funds needed to clear before I could officially take ownership of the vehicle.
The problem was, the transfer didn’t go through that evening.
The bank told me it would be there the next morning. But at that moment, I was standing there with the vehicle, ready to go, and technically, the deal wasn’t complete yet.
What happened next is something I’ll never forget. He trusted me enough to let me take the vehicle and drive it home before the money even cleared. This was now the second time in my carrer this happed .
That level of trust is rare. Especially in business. Especially in a deal like that.
I got in the vehicle and began the drive home. It was an incredible trip. Driving through multiple states, thinking about everything that had led up to that moment, and realizing how far things had come.
Business is still built on people, relationships, and trust.
My father was with me on that trip as well. Those moments meant a lot. Not just the vehicles, not just the business, but the experiences along the way.
We drove through several states, taking it all in, making our way back to Indiana with the Mercedes.
Looking back, that deal stands out for one simple reason. It reminded me that business is still built on people. On relationships. On trust. And sometimes, the most important parts of the journey have nothing to do with the vehicle itself.
A deal remembered for character
This chapter is not just about acquiring another vehicle. It is about the rare kind of trust that still makes business meaningful.
