Being included in Chauffeur Driven’s Benchmark and Best Practices feature represents another meaningful moment in my growing connection with the professional transportation industry.
For many years, publications such as Chauffeur Driven were among the few dependable resources I had for learning about transportation companies, vehicles, technology, business practices, leadership, associations, and the challenges faced by other operators.
I spent much of my career building Second Nature Limousine without mentors and without a strong professional network around me. My education came through experience, mistakes, difficult economic periods, long nights, mechanical challenges, customer service, and every industry resource I could find.
Chauffeur Driven gave me a connection to a much larger transportation community during years when I often felt as though I was building everything alone.
To move from reading industry publications for guidance and encouragement to becoming part of their coverage is something I will never take for granted.
Every feature carries personal meaning because I remember the younger version of myself who relied on these publications while trying to survive, build a company, support a family, and understand an industry that often seemed far larger than anything I knew.
The Benchmark and Best Practices feature reflects a subject that transportation operators understand very well. Fuel pricing, surcharges, operating expenses, and changing market conditions can significantly affect the profitability of every trip.
From an operational standpoint, fuel surcharges are not simply an additional line item. When structured correctly, they help transportation companies respond to volatile fuel costs while remaining transparent with customers and maintaining sustainable pricing.
Over the years, I have learned that pricing cannot remain completely static while the cost of operating a professional fleet continues changing. Operators must understand their expenses, monitor market conditions, and create pricing systems that protect both the customer relationship and the long term health of the business.
These lessons also influenced the development of BookItRides. Transportation operators need the ability to create pricing rules that reflect their actual costs, changing market conditions, vehicle requirements, service areas, special events, mileage, seasonal demand, and other factors affecting each reservation.
Technology should not remove control from an operator. It should give the operator better tools for protecting profitability, improving transparency, and making thoughtful pricing decisions.
I will always remain grateful to the publications, editors, writers, and transportation professionals whose work helped me continue learning during years when I had very few other resources.
Features like this are not simply about seeing my name or photograph in a magazine. They represent connection, progress, education, and the gradual unfolding of a journey that took decades to reach this point.
Today, my involvement has grown beyond operating a transportation company. Through BookItRides, association participation, advocacy, sponsorships, industry events, and professional relationships, I now have an opportunity to contribute to the same community that helped educate me for so many years.
I remain humbled by every opportunity to share my experience, recognize the people who helped me along the way, and contribute to meaningful conversations about the future of professional ground transportation.
Another Full Circle Moment
For years, Chauffeur Driven helped me learn about an industry I was working within but did not yet feel connected to. Being included within its Benchmark and Best Practices feature feels like another full circle moment. It reminds me how far the journey has traveled, how important industry education can be, and how one publication can quietly influence the life of an operator who is doing everything possible to keep moving forward.

Featured During the Miami Executive Retreat at the Fontainebleau
Seeing Maja and me included in Chauffeur Driven’s coverage of the Miami Executive Retreat brought another meaningful chapter of our industry journey full circle.
The Executive Retreat at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach was already an important experience for us. It brought Maja and me back to a city that had become our second home while giving us the opportunity to participate in a more intimate transportation industry event centered on education, leadership, connection, and meaningful conversation.
For more than a decade, Miami had been part of our personal lives. We had built friendships there, celebrated meaningful moments, enjoyed unforgettable evenings, and returned often enough that the city began to feel familiar in a way few places ever do.
Attending the Executive Retreat at the Fontainebleau allowed us to experience Miami from an entirely new perspective. We were no longer visiting only to relax and enjoy the city. We were there as active participants in the professional transportation industry.
A place filled with personal memories became the setting for education, professional growth, new friendships, and another important step in our industry involvement.
The smaller retreat environment gave us the opportunity to listen more closely, speak more openly, and connect with industry leaders, operators, association members, editors, and professionals in a way that can be difficult during a much larger trade show.
Every conversation offered something meaningful. We discussed the realities of operating transportation companies, the challenges facing the industry, customer expectations, insurance, technology, leadership, profitability, and the importance of relationships.
These discussions also gave me an opportunity to share more of my own story. I spoke about building Second Nature Limousine, the financial and personal challenges that shaped my journey, the years I spent without mentors, and the transportation industry publications that helped me continue learning.
I also had the opportunity to speak about BookItRides and explain how more than twenty five years of firsthand operating experience influenced the platform we were building for transportation companies.
The retreat was not only about scheduled sessions and formal discussions. Some of the most meaningful moments happened around the tables, during meals, by the pool, while waiting for the valet, and during the conversations that continued after the official schedule ended.
Those quieter moments gave Maja and me the opportunity to appreciate how much had changed in such a short period of time. Only months earlier, we were attending our first national limousine industry show. Now we were building friendships, supporting associations, participating in advocacy, representing BookItRides, and becoming part of conversations that once felt very far away.
Industry involvement is not only about attending events. It is about showing up, listening, sharing your experience, learning from others, and allowing genuine relationships to grow naturally.
Seeing our photograph included in Chauffeur Driven’s retreat coverage made the moment even more meaningful. For many years, Chauffeur Driven had been one of the resources that helped me understand an industry I was operating within but did not yet feel connected to.
Today, being included in its coverage feels like another full circle moment. It reminds me how much the journey has changed and how the publications, associations, and people who once educated me from a distance have now become part of my life and professional story.
I remain grateful to Chauffeur Driven, the National Limousine Association, the event organizers, the speakers, and everyone who made the Miami Executive Retreat such an important and memorable experience.
Another Memory at the Fontainebleau
The Fontainebleau had already been part of many personal memories for Maja and me. The Executive Retreat gave us another one, but this time it was connected to education, professional growth, industry involvement, and relationships that we hope will continue for many years. Seeing that experience documented in Chauffeur Driven made the memory even more special.
