The White H2 Hummer The Night We Thought It Was a Deer
Some moments stay with you forever. This was one of them.
After building the black H2 Hummer, another opportunity came up. This one was a white H2 Hummer limousine. It was being sold through an estate situation, and I knew right away it was something I wanted.
My father and I made the trip together. Those drives were always memorable. Just the two of us, long roads, long conversations, and a shared excitement about what we were building.
If that tire blew a few miles earlier… we would’ve had no way to call anyone.
We got incredibly lucky. We pulled into the only spot for miles that had service. After the flat, we were able to call a place called Big O Tires, and a gentleman came out to help us.
The problem was that he did not have the right spare tire for the Hummer. And when you are out in the middle of nowhere, that can turn into a very serious situation very quickly.
But I looked underneath his Dodge truck and noticed the spare he had under there.
Believe it or not, that spare actually fit the Hummer. It was an eight-lug wheel, which by itself does not mean everything because there are so many bolt patterns and offsets out there, but somehow, by the grace of God, it fit.
That got us safely back into town. Once we got there, we bought four brand new tires, got everything squared away, and headed back home.
We thought the worst part of the day was behind us.
Then later that evening, it happened.
We hit something. Hard.
I thought it was a deer. My dad looked at me and said…
“That wasn’t a deer. That was a moose.”
The impact shook the ground. I can still feel it when I think about it.
That moment could have changed everything.
We pulled over expecting the worst. The front end should have been destroyed.
But somehow… barely any damage. Just part of the grille.
We got back in. And we kept going.
Luck. Timing. Resilience.
Some chapters aren’t about business. They’re about how close everything came to changing.
The H2 Hummer Deal
It was a great day that day. I will say this, the gentleman who sold us the vehicle was a super swell guy. Everything about the deal was exactly how you would want it to be.
It was smooth from start to finish.
We closed the deal without any issues and were ready to begin our trip back to Indiana.
The vehicle was exactly as we expected, no surprises, no hidden issues. It was in mint condition.
I believe it only had around 12,000 miles on it, which is extremely rare for a vehicle like this.
Deals like this do not come around often. When they do, you take advantage of them, and you appreciate when everything comes together the way it should. Cinemacar Leasing got the job done for me once again back then!
Through Utah
On our trip home that day, we were crossing into Utah. We ended up stopping and getting some rest.
We woke up in the morning and started back on the road. About five to seven miles out… boom, flat tire.
Right in the middle of nowhere.
We were very fortunate that day. Situations like that make you stop and think. They slow everything down.
As I stood there, and as my father took in the views around us, it brought me back to something I have felt throughout my entire life.
In both difficult moments and moments of greatness, there has always been a sign, something guiding me, something reminding me I am not alone.
It was comforting to feel that again in that moment.
At the end of the day, we may have lost the ones we love, but they walk beside us every day, every moment, every hour, every minute, every second.
A Night Out in Las Vegas
The evening before closing out the deal, my father and I decided to go out and hit the town in Las Vegas.
It was my dad’s first time in Las Vegas, so I had to show him a good time. We had a wonderful room at Aria, where a gentleman I had met years before had really taken care of us.
It was one of those rare nights where everything came together exactly the way it should.
Later that evening, we headed over to XS at Encore. A friend I had made over the years was kind enough to set us up with a table and even sent over a complimentary bottle of champagne.
I have only seen my father drink alcohol a handful of times in my life, usually at weddings or when there was really something worth celebrating. Being such a hard worker, he never really drank unless the moment truly called for it.
And that night, we definitely had something to celebrate.
It was a memory for the ages. One of those moments with your father that you never forget.
A Memory for the Ages
I had some great times in Las Vegas over the years, but this one was different because I was there with my father.
There was something really special about being able to share that experience with him, especially knowing how hard he worked his whole life and how rarely he ever took time to go out and enjoy himself.
He deserved that night.
We laughed, we celebrated, and for a little while, all the stress and pressure of the business side of the trip gave way to something much more important, just enjoying the moment.
Those are the kinds of memories that stay with you forever. Not because of the room, the bottle, or the nightclub, but because of who you were with when it happened.
Some nights are fun. Some nights become part of your life story.
This was one of those nights.
